The CAB Fiction Manuscript Critique service is available exclusively
to writers who have formerly taken one of the Children's Authors'
Bootcamp weekend workshops. Critiques will be done by Laura
Backes, Linda Arms White, or one of CAB's qualified editorial
consultants. Each manuscript will receive a detailed written
critique that discusses the work's strengths and weaknesses in
the areas of plot, character development, dialogue, description,
theme, and writing style. Comments or examples of editing may
also be written directly on the manuscript. Specific suggestions
for revisions will also be included.
The rates for specific services are listed below. Please read the
manuscript submission information at the end before submitting
any work to the CAB Fiction Manuscript Critique Service.
Manuscript Critique Rates:
Manuscripts must be formatted as if you were submitting them to a
publisher: typed, double-spaced; one-inch margins on all sides;

per inch. Please number each page consecutively, and include your
name and the title of the work on the upper left corner of each
page.
(Note: If you submit multiple manuscripts for
critique, the charges below are for each manuscript, not the
combined total of pages for all the manuscripts.)
Basic rate: Critique of a manuscript up to five
pages long is $99.
Add $1 per page for each additional manuscript page.

Submission Procedure for
Critiques
Before submitting, please email Laura Backes at Laura@write4kids.com
or call 970/495-0056 to be put on the critique schedule (in
emails, please state the length of your manuscript). You will
then be given the address where you can mail your manuscript. Pre-scheduling
a critique is important as we make every effort to respond to
submissions in a timely manner.
Manuscripts must be formatted in the same way
as if you were submitting to a publisher (following the
manuscript formatting guidelines explained above). Please include
a self-addressed, stamped envelope with enough postage for the
materials return. Manuscripts submitted by email will not
be accepted. Include a check or money order made out to
Children's Authors' Bootcamp for the full price of the critique,
or your credit card number and phone number (we take Master Card,
Visa, Discover and American Express).
